Equestrian

Sunday, August 24, 2014

I was five when I decided what I wanted to be when I grew up. I had my heart set on riding horses, and taking care of my favorite horse Star. This enthusiasm can be credited to the summer camp my parents sent me to when  I was 4. Yes that seems like a young age, but I was ready to go off on my own and make friends. (First day of camp my mom cried and I didn't say goodbye, just hopped on the bus.)
This summer camp not only had sports, fishing and swimming but also Horseback riding - which became my favorite thing to do. When we would arrive at the stable, we would run to grab a helmet and stand in line for which ring we would be in. Once the other riders tied up their horse and left, we had to walk slowly to the horses, which admittedly was very hard for any 5 year old. My favorite horse was Star, named because of the white spot on her forehead. It's been 20 years, I still remember her name. Then the camp counselor would boost us  up onto the horse, and as we got older, we were able to do this ourselves - clinging onto the railing and shimmying over the horse. I can remember that at an older age, we were taught to stand up on a horse and were even allowed to saddle and unsaddle the horse. If we were lucky enough to have horseback riding at the end of the day, we could brush the horses! Talk about exciting.

As I recall these fond memories, I need to give credit to the one whom spurred my trip down memory lane -Tory Burch. Burch just recently came out with an "equestrian" line that is awfully cute. I stumbled upon more equestrian inspired items that are just to die for. Most of these are out of my price range so don't be thinking I can afford these, but a girl can dream!

Listen - Equestrian - U.S. Royalty I saw the U.S. Royalty at this cute little bar in Los Feliz a few years ago and became obsessed with this song.

Skin Protection

Monday, August 18, 2014

I think by now, most of you have seen that viral video of the UV camera lens showing sun damage to many different faces. This got me thinking, how many people out there add SPF to their beauty routine? I personally, wearing 30 SPF everyday. I am 50% Irish, and a mix of Hungarian and Scandinavian countries, my fair skin does not do well in the sun like it used it when I was a child. Since skin cancer runs in my family and effects 1 in 5 people in their lifetime, I believe that sun protection needs to be an essential part of everyone's day to day.

I don't want to get into the depression facts, I'd rather speak about great beauty products that makes sun protection an easy step in your daily beauty routine. There are many benefits to using SPF everyday; you protect your skin, prevents early aging i.e. wrinkles, prevents skin discoloration, reduces red facial veins and many others.

Here are a few of my personal favorite beauty products with SPF's higher than 30!

 1. Josie Maran - Argan Daily Moisturizer $32 SPF 47
2. Kate Sommerville - Illumikate CC Cream $48 SPF 50
3. Coola - Face SPF 30 cucumber moisturizer $32 SPF 30
4. Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer Broad Spectrum $12.35 SPF 30 - what a steal!

What is your favorite sunscreen to add to your daily beauty routine?

Fall Obsession - Tory Burch

The more you get to know me, the more you will start to learn I have a "healthy" obsession with all things Tory Burch. 1. I love her logo, it is simple, elegant and identifiable. 2. Her line is classic, yes she does take risks but they seem to be "safer" risks. Basically it seems like she only puts out bags, clothes, shoes that she would wear and I admire that. There are some higher end and more established brands that want to "wow" the fashion industry with how cutting edge they are. Honestly, I feel like some of these fashions are just down right ugly and obnoxious.

Anyway, here are some fall essentials that are guaranteed to stay in style for the fall seasons to come.

All items can of course be purchased here.

Beauty Basics

Thursday, August 14, 2014

1. Jack Black - MP10 Nourishing Oil- I use this day and night, makes my skin feel amazing without the feeling of oily residue. This oil has reduced my acne, softened any expression lines and make my skin glow - yes it's meant for a man but I love it.

2. Benefit - It's Potent! - amazing eye cream to use before bed.
3. Burt's Bees (sold basically everywhere!) - I currently own at least 5, they are scattered everywhere. Car, purse, beside table, desk, random jacket pocket. Seriously, can't live without this product.
4. Coola - SPF 30 Cucumber Face Moisturizer - Part of my morning routine includes a moisturizer sunblock. Out of all of the products I have tried, this is my favorite. Does not feel greasy, doesn't turn my skin white, smells like cucumbers and has 30spf!!
5. Clinque - Acne Solution Clarifying Lotion - This is step two in my morning and nightly ritual, right after washing my face.

What Beauty Basics can you not live without?

Healdsburg

Tuesday, August 12, 2014

This past Sunday my friend, Carleigh and I drove north to Kendall Jackson to support our friend Allie as she finished her first half marathon. Carleigh and I decided to venture even farther north to Healdsburg where we spent the day brunching, wine tasting, and stocking up on baked goods.

On a side note, my father is a self-proclaimed bread enthusiast. Tell him any city in the Mid to Northern California and he can tell  you where the best baguette or loaf of bread can be purchased and quickly consumed (within 30 miles). He has many times told about the best baguette he has ever had at this place called The Shed; I honestly couldn't go to Healdsburg without bringing my dad back a baguette.

First stop in Healdsburg was of course, The Shed. The Shed is more of a modern shed looking building with a metal overhang frame that is lined with windows along the side. The store front is as well floor to ceiling windows with a roll up door for quick access from your picnic table to the coffee bar. One of my favorite touches is the door which is adorned with a shovel and spading fork. See below for my recommendations for either a weekend trip to Healdsburg or even a spur of the moment adventure!

Work Related Stress Reflection

A little background on my job, I work for a general engineering contractor that specializes in underground utilities. Sounds boring and probably not a place where you would expect me to work. Honestly, boring is quite the opposite to how work actually is. There is something about those excavators, loaders, pneumatic rollers that just gets my blood racing. The fast paced environment is both thrilling and tense, some days I am able to roll with it and other days it just beats me up.

I am sure I am not the only one when I say that I take things at work too personally. It maybe be my young naive age, my generation or maybe its just who I am but I often get to a point where if I have a bad day I want to cry and quit to "show them". This begs me to reflect on why I have these thoughts to jump ship so fast when things aren't making me 110% happy. I can't help but feel that I take things personally because work is my life right now (single w/ no kids); or that I expect that my job owes it to me to make me happy 24/7. Who knows... I'll keep reflecting.

In order to prevent the buildup of tension and stress I've found a few releases.
1. Laughing  - seeing funny pictures or listening to comedians on Pandora helps
2. Pictures of Kittens or baby animals - I'm not "kitten" you, it instantly puts me at ease
3. Taking a short walk - get my "steps" in and a change of scenery for a few minutes
4. Crying - no joke this helps a lot. Try not to do it AT work, run off to your car and call your mom for sympathy

How do you stay stress-free at work?

Sunday Reflections

Sunday, August 10, 2014

Sunday Night - lounging on my couch, catching up on old episodes of I Love Lucy, I realized my weekend is coming to a close and I didn't check anything off my to do list. Laundry separated in piles on the floor (the standard first stage to do my laundry but alas no quarters so it must wait), my bathroom has remnants of last weeks make up sprinkled on the sink waiting to be swept away, and dishes are still in the sink still "soaking". As I begin to dread the fact that tomorrow is Monday, I start to think... Instead of dreading tomorrow, what am I grateful for?

Pre-Monday Gratitude
I am grateful for the fact that I even have a job to go to.
I am grateful for the new sunflowers that adorn my kitchen table (Something to replace my sad and wilting Mums!).
I am grateful for my funny coworkers.
My I Love Lucy 365 days Calendar (every new day is a funny picture, makes things exciting!)
I get to see Justin Timberlake TOMORROW!

I feel a little better about the weekend being over, now excuse me while I try and find something clean to wear tomorrow. Does anyone else write or say daily gratitude's?

Fridays Fancy

I currently fancy flamingos! What do you like the best?

Signing Off

During my many e-mails I send throughout the day I started to reflect the way I sign off my e-mails. I either don't sign off, or I do something along the lines of "Thanks" "Thank you", or "Thanks!!". I decided that I will start signing off my e-mails differently - albeit more appropriately, and avoid using "Thanks" or some version of it. I figure that I am not the only one who overuses the same sign off.

Here are some sign offs that you can add to your rotation.
1. In haste
2. Warmly
3. Kind Regards
4. Kindly
5. All the best
6. From - I don't think I use this often enough and its so simple.

Desk Essentials

Thursday, August 7, 2014

I've been working full time for a little over two years now, and being posted in the same area for over 40  hours a week, I would like my area to not only be cute, but also reflect my interests and who I am. Frankly, it can be a little hard to show your own personality in a small cube, or if you share an office with someone. Having a few personal touches around your desk, I feel, can make it more enjoyable to be there. Additionally, it's pretty exciting to find ways to decorate your space!

Here are some of my favorite desk and office accessories that are either currently on my desk or on my wish list! Whats on your desk?

Monogrammed Mouse Pad - LoveyDoveyCreations
I opted for this monogrammed mouse pad when my current mouse pad was run down and dirty. This is actually my exact mouse pad, initials and everything.

Personalized Desk Calendar - Paper Petals Shop
Another chevron desk accessory, I like having this 11x17 desk calendar as yet another place to write down important dates. I don't know about you, but there are definitely days where I leave my planner at home and feel lost. Plus, there are some work meetings that I don't want on my personal planner as it tends to get cluttered.

Planner - Kate Spade
These Kate Spade planners are all the rage. I love the spiral spin, the bright colors, inspirational quotes and areas to write down goals and tasks. This planner has 17 months so its perfect to start using now!
